This year’s Erfgoeddag is all about slowing down. Bessst, Brukselbinnenstebuiten and Trage Wegen consequently consider the event to be an ideal opportunity for launching the first bessst route, a trail connecting the centre of Brussels to the forest of Soignes and encouraging its users to look for stillness in the inner city, and have invited OKNO to organize an edible walk along its course.

Nathalie Hunter is both an artist and a herbalist. She will guide us through Brussels’ urbanized environment, talking about the plants that thrive in it as we will come across them. Narratives and practices from the past and state-of-the-art knowledge will be intermingled during this walk that will be followed by some herbal experiments in OKNO’s outdoor rooftop kitchen. OKNO’s transparent observation beehives will be open to inspection while the organisation will present its artistic research project on city beekeeping. In OKNO’s library, extensive information about wild and medicinal plants, herbal preparations, apiculture, permaculture and other subjects merging ecology, technology and DIY will be at hand and knowledge will be shared by means of recipes and storytelling. In the future, this know-how should enable people to be more creative and independent while searching for sustainable ways of living.
