Kunstenfestival Watou, WIP

For Kunstenfestival Watou I was Invited by Edith Doove from Bureau Doove to create a project around Bruno Latour’s philosophy/ In his iconic book; “Nous n’avons jamais été modernes.” he writes about how we sometimes are archaic, sometimes futuristic. How we can compose a new way to live here in the earth. It is a composition.

I talked with inhabitants of Watou, they told me stories of belonging, of surroundings, of habits.

I looked at traditional ceramics from the nearby Lille.

I drew and dug some local clay.

This all merged into ceramic vessels of abundance. Inspired by “The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction.” (1988) from Ursula Le Guin. The ceramic bowls give shape to our connectedness with nature.

In my project “Radiance”, we are part of nature, just as flora, fauna and minerals. Drawings are inspired by traditional symbolic elements. It is about creating a regenerative society, where the archaic, the futuristic are connected. A radically positive approach, not to diminish the urgency, but to lay a ground for positive action .
